I hope to pursue a career in biostatistics / epidemiology and currently working towards a computed biology / bioinformative minor in my university. Some of my minor courses include SQL, Pearl, Java, C ++, etc. as part of the curriculum. I have some freedom in choosing classes, so I was wondering which programming language is often used in statistical applications for health / medicine? So far only the basic knowledge of C and R is knowledge.
Waste your time on a .NET bio, as a bioinformatian. If you are in biostats, then you want to know r and know it well. Learn about packages in Bioconnector and other repos, and how to create useful visualizations.
For more heavy lifting and data Mangal, learn a little Pearl or Python, and learn the basic Unix utility (awk, sed, sort, cut, etc.)
If you are planning to actually work on Computational-heavy programs, where no good algorithm is available, knowing some C or C ++ can be useful for speed and memory management. is. / P>
Actually, however, start with R.
