OK you need "layered navigation" and "category list" on home_page.

CMS & gt; Manage page & gt; Add the following to the homepage and editor:

  {{block type = "list / product_list" column_count = "4" category_id = "ROOT_CAT_ID_HERE" template = "list / product / list.file"}} Add "Layout Update XML" to the   
 tab:
